Job Summary

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineer within our Hydropower Design Center in Sacramento, California. A lead civil engineer in our Hydropower Division to function as both a project engineer performing technical design work, as well as an engineering construction manager to organize and oversee multi-discipline project teams. Prior experience serving in a similar capacity is desired and will be important for performing technical and managerial functions.

 

Knowledge of construction industry and mechanical intuition preferred. Selected candidate will work collectively with other disciplines and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality design work (i.e. plans, specifications, estimates, analyses, etc.) for water and hydropower utility clients. We are looking for a well-rounded, highly capable engineer who is interested in leading challenging projects in our Hydropower Division.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a Civil engineer for hydropower projects

• Act as a Field engineer for hydropower projects
• Engineer will support design and construction of new and upgrade projects and provide field engineering and construction support for work related to hydraulic structures, dams, levees, penstocks, spillways, tunnels etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

5-7 years of civil engineering experience in hydropower, construction management or related field
• Previous experience in a client facing role. Good communication skills and capable of working directly with project teams and client counterparts to understand key interests, objectives, and practical solutions. 
• Professional Engineer Registration in California required

• Can receive direction and translate into efficient workplans for coordinating with project team members and efficiently delivering high-quality work products.

• Proficient writing, technical drawing, cost estimating, and engineering skills for producing typical instruments of service.

• Construction inspection and/or management experience is ideal.
