The Opportunity

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Resilience Planning Leader focused on planning and implementation of resilience strategies with strategic clients throughout California and the western United States.  This leader will consult with clients regarding water supply, water reuse, One Water, water resource, climate adaptation/mitigation tactics, vulnerability planning/implementation, carbon mitigation/sequestration strategies, electrification, and holistic and resilient infrastructure system solutions. 

 

Within our U.S. Business, we have seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges stemming from water scarcity, climate change, increasing system vulnerabilities, coastal impacts and sea level rise, aging infrastructure, resource optimization needs, emergency response, carbon sequestration, risk mitigation and recovery, repetitive flood losses, etc.  We anticipate increased focus on resilience and infrastructure hardening, systems thinking and integrated systems planning, sustainable and resilient strategies, nature-based solutions, and climate change adaptation/mitigation.  This role represents a strategic business initiative for Black & Veatch, and the position focused on Regional Resilience Planning Leader is designed to help the company grow its market share by providing world-class resilience planning and implementation solutions 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as B&V’s Northern California Regional Resilience Planning Leader and serve as a Point of Contact for BV’s wide breadth of resilience solutions and subject matter experts 
  • Develop strategic client relationships and connect BV’s integrated solutions to help solve their complex challenges 
  • Support clients navigate decarbonization, electrification, regulatory, and resilience challenges 
  • Support system vulnerability assessments/evaluations and connect resilience solutions to provide clients with mitigation/adaptation strategies  
  • Facilitate and orchestrate client and stakeholder workshops, business case evaluations, and trade-off discussions to help clients plan and implement solutions to enable resilience 
  • Support climate mitigation/adaptation studies and implementation efforts 
  • Support clients in attaining their resource optimization and system management goals 
  • Support planning and implementation of green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and sustainable watershed projects and programs 
  • Support scenario planning efforts for capital improvement plans (CIPs) and capital prioritization efforts that integrate resilience adaptation/mitigation strategies as well as client’s risk mitigation goals 
  • Support Emergency Response Planning and Recovery services  
  • Cultivate innovative partnerships to leverage new technologies and approaches for the benefit of our clients 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of water supply, One Water, water reuse, risk, resilience, climate change, vulnerability planning, design, and implementation experience  

  • Experience with client development, relationship building, and business development 

  • Experience with team building, recruiting, and talent assessment  

  • Knowledge of State and Federal approaches and tools to assess risks and provide hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, disaster recovery, and resilience strategic planning and implementation  

  • Familiarity with the use of sustainability tools and frameworks such as EnvisionTM, LEED, UN Sustainability Goals, etc. 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 15 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
