Job Summary

This is a mid-level position, which is accountable for implementing and maintaining the Project Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Procedures. This position performs basic safety and health functions of mid-level complexity. 


Key Responsibilities

• Conducts employee and subcontractor project site safety orientations.
• Conducts detailed construction site safety and health inspections.
• Implements project security programs and procedures.
• Performs record keeping / filing functions.
• Conducts incident and injury/illness investigations and root cause analysis. Writes detailed injury/illness reports.
• Completes all appropriate client/owner safety and health program documents.
• May act as on site first aid provider.
• Communicates with company and client worker's compensation manager.
• Acts in capacity of a "lead person " Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.  
• Participates in incident reviews and provides technical input.   
• Reports to the site EH&S Manager and Construction Manager
• Ensures Black & Veatch professionals understand and comply with all B&V safety policies

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Safety and health certification  
• Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety Management or related curriculum preferred 
• 5+ years in a construction environment
• Electrical, Transmission Line, Power Distribution or Sub-Station construction experience preferred
• Experience with SWPPP, spill management and soil erosion controls

Preferred Competencies: Strong knowledge of construction safety and health standards and practices. Knowledge of company substance abuse policies and procedures. Knowledge of worker's compensation policies and procedures. Ability to perform first aid/medical functions. Strong communication skills. Word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs. Ability to write detailed reports. 
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with the Black & Veatch Project Team, the Client and external Local, State and Federal entities, as required.

Minimum Qualifications
2+ years safety and health experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

First Aid, CPR, Safety and Health Program Administration, Incident Analysis Trained, OSHA 30, OSHA 500, OSHA 510

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Typical construction site and office environments.
  • Sitting, walking, talking, listening,  hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time.
  • Extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation).
  • Ability to travel to worksite locations throughout the length of the project will be required.  
  • Ability to work outdoors in the elements and access remote environments will be required.
