Job Summary

The professional’s primary responsibility is to perform intermediate level functions requiring knowledge and use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes/procedures in support of creating and modifying structural engineering deliverables for a variety of building types, structures, and foundation systems. The professional’s secondary responsibility may provide support to create and modify deliverables for a variety of building systems for other disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, civil, and architectural)

Key Responsibilities

Quality / Continuous Improvement: Continues developing knowledge and complies with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks to ensure the deliverables are accurate and compliant. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts. Demonstrates personal accuracy.

Engineering Production: Prepares and verifies less complex structural engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, design analysis, and studies). Performs research and develops recommendations for structural materials selection. Collects, assimilates, and manages data for structural engineering work. Prepares structural engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements 

Project Coordination: Seeks out supervisor or project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination. Coordinates with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership.   

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Promotes and supports a culture of Black & Veatch’s principles, behaviors, initiatives, and values; innovation; quality; and safety.

Engineering Standards: Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures. Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate  

Project Coordination: Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects. Responsible for coordinating project schedules for multiple disciplines.

Client Focus: Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers. May provide support to business development or pursuit activities  

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes.

High Seismic design
Experience with USACE requirements, specifications, and design processes including, UFC 3-301-01, UFC 3-3-01-02, UFC 3-320-06A, UFC 3-340-01, UFC 3-340-02, UFC 4-023-03, UFC 4-010-01, and UFC 4-211-01
Master of Science degree in an ABET-accredited program of Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Structural Engineering
Knowledge of  REVIT Structural, AutoCad, RISA-3D, RISAFloor, RISAFoundation, RISAConnection, RISA REVIT Link,  ADAPT apps,  MathCad prime, SAP2000, Enercalc
Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Intellectual Horsepower, Written Communications, Drive For Results, Informing, Listening, and Dealing with Ambiguity 
Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline 
Knowledge of precast, post tensioned, deep foundations, structural dynamic analysis, ATFP (Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection), renovations, high seismic analysis/design; mission critical, maintenance, administration, and/or support facilities
Knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles

Minimum Qualifications

Executive Order 14042, associated federal safety protocols for federal contractors, issued on September 24, 2021, requires covered contractors and subcontractors who work with the federal government to ensure their employees are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by an FDA approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine, or are approved for a medical or religious accommodation by January 18, 2022. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 3 years related work experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
