Job Summary

Functions in our group include safety, project field management, construction management, quality control, start up and decommissioning and field engineering

 

Be the day-to-day on-site representative of the Owner(s) and look out for their best interest. Be the on-site liaison representing the Owner(s) in day-to-day communications with the general contractor (GC), subs, suppliers and other service people working on the job. Monitor job construction progress. Monitor safety conditions, and report issues to the GC, who has prime responsibility for all job safety matters. Appraise Owner(s) if unsafe working conditions exist and persist, and of potential liability concerns. Monitor, and participate in, the construction QA/QC program. Verify that the QA/QC requirements of the contract are being met. Promote communications between the construction team (GC and subs) and designer team (EOR & subs). 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Anticipates daily and upcoming construction activities, and prepares accordingly; may give direction to other inspection staff .
  • Provides drawing and specification interpretations with little direction .
  • Reviews and analyzes contractor's project schedule with direction .
  • With limited direction, interprets contract documents for QA/QC .
  • May assist with limited direction in evaluating change requests, claims, and cost proposals from contractor; coordinates responses with the project manager; and prepares change orders 
  • Monitors and reports on pertinent site conditions when contractor indicates unforeseen subsurface or other changed conditions .
  • Assists with logs and tracks all issues, proposed changes, change orders, and claims .
  • Performs administrative duties related to project controls in the absence of admin staff .
  • Inspects complicated construction activities with little or no direction .
  • Documents field observations .
  • Resolves minor construction issues in the field with contractor foreman .
  • Observes Black and Veatch's safety policies .
  • Can process contractor pay application, respond to simple RFIs, and coordinate complex interpretations with engineer .
  • May begin to provide direction to other field staff 

Management Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a construction-related discipline or craft apprenticeship preferred 
  • 5+ years related field experience preferred 
  • Certifications for electrical testing preferred  

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands:
• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
• See and hear naturally or with correction.   
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. 
• Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. 
• Requires repetitive movement. 
• May require work above 5 feet in height.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. 
• Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

• Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 
• Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. 
• Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions 
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. 
• Work around hazardous equipment.
• Typical office environment.
• This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
