Job Summary
The Senior Engineer – Civil functions as a senior technical contributor and task/discipline lead supporting the planning, design, and delivery of industrial water and wastewater treatment projects for global clients. Working from the India office, this role involves leading complex civil design activities for industrial facilities, coordinating with multidisciplinary global teams, and ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and compliance with applicable codes and client standards under general supervision. Projects typically include raw water intake systems, pretreatment facilities, desalination plants, ZLD systems, wastewater treatment and reuse facilities, pumping stations and site infrastructure serving industrial sectors such as power, oil & gas, chemicals, manufacturing, and mining.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Execution
• Perform and lead complex civil engineering design tasks for industrial water and wastewater facilities, including Site layouts and grading, Pump stations and intake/outfall structures, Treatment unit general arrangements (clarifiers, filters, tanks, basins), Industrial plant infrastructure and utility corridors
• Apply advanced engineering principles, design standards, and codes relevant to industrial water projects, including US, international, and client-specific standards.
• Develop, review, and validate engineering calculations, drawings, technical memoranda, specifications, and Basis of Design Reports (BODR).
• Support constructability reviews and coordination with procurement and construction teams as required.
Technical Leadership & Coordination
• Function as a task or discipline lead on industrial water projects of low to medium complexity.
• Provide technical guidance, oversight, and review of work performed by engineers and CAD/VDDS technicians.
• Coordinate closely with process, mechanical, electrical, structural, geotechnical, piping, HVAC, and I&C disciplines to deliver integrated industrial facility designs.
• Resolve interdisciplinary interface issues, particularly at the civil–process and civil–mechanical boundaries.
Global Project Delivery
• Execute project work for US, Middle East, APAC, and other international industrial clients from the India office in accordance with Black & Veatch global delivery and quality standards.
• Coordinate with global discipline leads, project managers, and engineering managers to support design development, risk mitigation, and issue resolution.
• Support multiple projects concurrently while effectively managing priorities, schedules, and deliverables.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch Quality Management System (QMS), applicable design guides, and project-specific requirements.
• Participate in internal quality reviews, interdisciplinary checks, and response to QC comments.
• Incorporate health and safety principles in design, consistent with international best practices and industrial client requirements.
Typical Scope & Authority
• Operates under general direction with defined project objectives.
• Responsible for the technical accuracy, completeness, and coordination of assigned civil deliverables.
• Prepares and verifies complex engineering deliverables for large or multiple industrial projects.
• Performs complex engineering studies and develops recommendations for materials, layouts, and system configurations.
• Understands and manages scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements for assigned tasks.
• Reviews and approves work performed by junior engineers and technicians.
• May support or lead: Larger production teams, Multi-discipline coordination activities and or Portions of projects as responsible charge under supervision
• Participates in internal and external project meetings with global stakeholders.
Client Focus:
• Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project leadership and discipline teams) while developing an understanding of external industrial client drivers and operating requirements.
• Communicates client expectations to project teams and helps develop design approaches that balance technical, schedule, cost, and operational considerations.
• May support proposal development, technical evaluations, and pursuit activities for industrial water projects.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• Typically 20+ years of relevant experience in industrial water and wastewater infrastructure design.
• Demonstrated experience delivering industrial water projects (e.g., desalination, ZLD, reuse, power or refinery water systems) for US and/or international clients in a global delivery environment.
• Professional registration (PE, CEng, or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory.
