Job Summary

Join our construction equipment maintenance team in a hands-on, field-based role where you will help keep critical construction equipment running safely, reliably, and job-ready. In this role, you will diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and electrical systems on equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, backhoes, and other heavy construction machinery. This position requires travel and offers the opportunity to support active construction projects while applying your technical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance skills in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain construction equipment to support safe, reliable field operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, fueling, oiling, and routine service on heavy equipment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, computerized test equipment, and calibration devices to identify defects and complete repairs.
  • Inspect, adjust, repair, and overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and electrical systems on mobile construction equipment.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects and verify equipment performance.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
  • Repair or replace damaged and worn components, including bearings, wiring, structural members, sheet metal parts, and other equipment components.
  • Safely dismantle, reassemble, test, and return heavy equipment to job-ready condition using hoists, hand tools, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Read and interpret operating manuals, technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer guidance to complete repairs accurately.
  • Support parts research, ordering, inventory control, service documentation, maintenance scheduling, and equipment condition records.
  • Assist equipment operators with daily inspections and reinforce safe equipment operation and maintenance practices.
  • Perform welding, soldering, fabrication, electrical troubleshooting, and other related repair work as needed.
  • Help ensure equipment leaving the jobsite, warehouse, or yard is safe, clean, properly serviced, and ready for the next assignment.
  • Participate in pre-job planning, safety discussions, lockout/tagout procedures, hazard identification, incident reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate work with operators, mechanics, supervisors, and project teams.
  • May act as a lead, provide work direction, support training, and help guide other professionals as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred high school diploma or equivalent with additional technical, vocational, diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment training preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience maintaining and repairing construction equipment, heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or fleet equipment
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and electrical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform field-based repairs with limited supervision
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, hand tools, power tools, gauges, and technical manuals
  • Strong attention to detail, safety focus, and commitment to keeping equipment job-ready
  • Ability to document service work, maintain records, support parts inventory, and enter data accurately
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient math, organizing, and problem-solving skills
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel to construction project sites as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience working as a Mechanic that is considered an A level Technician with a strong working knowledge of mechanics.
  • At least 2 years experience working as a manager or supervisor.
  • Must have working knowledge of industrial construction equipment, machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.  
  • Unristristriced drivers license and clean MVR.  
  • Must have all necessary tools.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Position will require the possession of or obtaining a Class A CDL (within 6 months of hire).
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment

  • Travel may be required.
  • Typically, a mixture of office, warehouse, laydown yard, and construction project site environment.
  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
  • Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Requires exposure to high places.


Physical Demands

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction.
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.
  • Requires repetitive movement.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift, doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
