Duties
Under close supervision, perform engineering functions requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles. Obtain more depth in the specific subject area with the expectation that assignments are larger and more complex, or by gaining experience in more subject areas. Continue to learn and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures. Prepare and verify less complex engineering deliverables high voltage substations. Perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work. Prepare engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Seek out supervisor or project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination. Coordinate with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership. Focus on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes. Perform engineering and provide technical direction and oversight of technicians for high voltage substation projects up to 345kV. Perform analysis, calculations, research, selection, layout, etc., necessary to develop required design documents. Prepare design materials for basic design assignments. Coordinate design efforts with other project personnel in the same or other departments. Coordinate items that include space control, schedule and layout optimization. Evaluate manufacturer's or contractor's proposals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with Black & Veatch criteria. Prepare assigned reports, studies or analysis for project. Maintain records, lists, schedules, etc., for High Voltage engineering projects. Manage assigned budgets, schedules and quality requirements. May perform quality verifications (QA/QC) for electrical drawings and calculations prior to issuing for construction. Work in a team environment and collaborate with the client and other electrical and civil/structural engineers. Design wiring and schematic diagrams for relaying panels, SCADA drawings, one line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC diagrams, electrical plan views, electrical section views, conduit/raceway plans, cable charts, grounding plans and bill of materials for high voltage substation projects. Provide various calculations, such as AC & DC station service loading, ampacity, battery sizing, voltage drop, lightning and conduit fill. Learn client standards and utilize them with designs. No hire / fire authority. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and one year of related GRID experience. Must have experience with Bluebeam Revu, file sharing software (similar to ProjectWise Explorer), and Microsoft 365. Must have experience working with IEEE standards and other commonly utilized industry standards. Must have experience independently developing written communication and facilitating coordination with team members and clients. Must have experience designing small electrical engineering projects, including creating/modifying one-line diagrams. Must have experience with performing AC, DC and voltage drop calculations. Up to 10% national travel may be required. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. Colorado Wage Range: $84,531 to $152,053/year.
