Project Manager - Grid Connection and Power Delivery

Job Summary

The Grid Interconnection & Power Delivery Project Manager is the commercial and operational owner of the path to power for our clients in Spain and continental Europe. 

The Project Manager is a seller-doer player; acting as the client-facing delivery lead who mirrors the client's own organization and the central node between them, TSOs and DSOs, and our global engineering translating grid constraints and utility contracts into clear commercial and operational realities.
Working alongside Business Development, it will carry opportunities from leads to awards. During execution, it owns full project delivery accountability across schedule, scope and change. 

This role is based in our Madrid, Spain office. We work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in the office and 2 days from home.  Some travel to other B&V offices, client offices, project sites etc throughout the region will be required.

Key Responsibilities

Path to Power 
•    Own the pathway to power for each client project location: assess grid access and connection viability at HV and MV, including interpretation of capacity maps, connection queues and infrastructure constraints. 
•    Apply the Spanish regulatory framework in practice and the Spanish grid code. 
•    Collaborate with BV’s SMEs on assessing behind-the-meter and bridging generation options as a route around connection queues, including the implications for environmental permitting. 
•    Navigate – in collaboration with BV’s permitting team - through the environmental and administrative triggers that govern schedule: AAI and EIA thresholds, autonomous community requirements, and municipal licensing. 
•    Translate utility contracts, grid constraints and upstream system limitations into clear commercial and operational consequences for the client and for our project. 
Project Delivery 
•    Deliver across the full spectrum of services: site screening and feasibility, road-to-power strategy, grid connection studies, conceptual design, permitting support, FEED and basic design, and Owner's Engineer assignments. 
•    Lead competitive proposals and keep ownership to avoid eroding margin. 
•    Select, engage and manage local subcontractors and specialist consultants, including scope definition, commercial negotiation and quality assurance of their deliverables. 
Client Interface and Business Development 
•    Act as the client's single, named focal point through execution
•    Support Business Development in moving opportunities through the commercial pipeline: shaping scope, contributing technical content to proposals, and attending client workshops and technical clarification meetings. 
•    Represent the company with utilities, developers, IPPs, colocation platforms and their advisors. 
Cross-Functional Leadership 
•    Act as the central node between external technical consultants, utilities, commercial teams and delivery teams, ensuring technical data is handed off cleanly and applied to the commercial strategy. 
•    Bridge the communication gap between technical engineers, commercial teams and external utility partners. 
•    Coordinate with global engineering resources in the UK, US and APAC, adapting central capability to local regulatory and market reality. 
•    Contribute to the development of the regional data centre capability, including standards, repeatable methodologies and knowledge transfer to more junior staff. 
Risk and Governance 
•    Maintain internal governance, documentation traceability and quality of deliverables. 
•    Identify and mitigate commercial, technical and schedule risk across the portfolio of live scopes. 

Management Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical or energy discipline. 
•    Typically 10+ years of relevant experience across energy infrastructure, grid operations, utilities, consulting or electrical engineering, with a substantial proportion in a project management or Owner's Engineer capacity. 
•    Demonstrable track record of delivering projects in Spain. European delivery experience is strongly preferred. 
•    Proven understanding of grid connection processes, access rights and energy infrastructure contracting. 
•    Direct experience engaging with TSOs and DSOs in Spain and ideally elsewhere in Europe. 
•    Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure, grid systems and transmission and distribution networks, including system voltages, redundancy practices and the components required to deliver power to site. 
•    Professional level of fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English

Preferred Qualifications

•    Data centre projects — hyperscale, colocation, enterprise or edge — in any capacity across development, delivery or advisory. 
•    Owner's Engineer, independent engineering or technical due diligence assignments for IPPs, investors or lenders. 
•    Renewable generation and storage development, particularly where co-located with large industrial or data centre loads. 
•    PMP or equivalent project management certification.
