Senior Electrical Engineer - Nuclear Infrastructure

At Black & Veatch, we are helping clients modernise, upgrade and develop some of the UK and Europe's most important infrastructure assets. As part of our growing Nuclear Infrastructure team, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design and engineering of facilities, systems and infrastructure that enable the safe operation, maintenance and expansion of nuclear sites.

This is an opportunity to work on technically complex, high-profile projects that support Europe's energy and infrastructure goals. Importantly, this role focuses on the engineering and design of electrical infrastructure within nuclear environments, rather than nuclear technology, reactor physics or power generation science.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the design and delivery of electrical systems supporting major nuclear infrastructure projects in Spain and across Europe (potential to support UK projects).

You will work as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering solutions for both existing and new-build nuclear facilities, supporting clients through design, upgrade, refurbishment and asset optimisation programmes.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead or support the delivery of electrical design packages for nuclear infrastructure projects.
• Develop and review:
• Single-line and three-line diagrams.
• Protection and control schematics.
• Motor control and equipment wiring diagrams.
• Cable schedules and cable sizing calculations.
• Electrical equipment layouts and interconnection drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations including:
• Load flow studies.
• Short circuit analysis.
• Motor starting studies.
• Arc flash assessments.
• Battery and charger sizing.
• Protection coordination studies.
• Prepare technical specifications, scope documents and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
• Undertake site surveys and assessments to understand existing infrastructure and identify engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers and clients.
• Support project planning, budget development and programme delivery.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.
• Ensure compliance with Spanish (and preferably wider European) regulatory requirements, client standards and engineering best practice

Preferred Qualifications

You are a technically strong electrical engineer who thrives in a collaborative project environment and is motivated by delivering engineering solutions that make a real impact.

Preferred Experience

• Experience delivering electrical design and engineering projects within nuclear or other similar regulated industries.
• Experience of power distribution systems and infrastructure design.
• Familiarity with engineering software
• Experience using discipline related software and other engineering design tools.
• Previous experience working on nuclear, power, industrial, defence or critical infrastructure projects.

Minimum Qualifications

• AIPE or AQPE or working towards qualification through a recognised professional institution. (Preferred but not essential).
• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulations and industry best practices.
• Must have the legal right to work within the country that you are applying for (Spain)
• Must be fluent in Spanish and English languages (Written and verbal)
