Job Summary

At Black & Veatch, the Data Scientist plays a pivotal role in transforming how we leverage data across our engineering, consulting, and construction services. This role is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining predictive, prescriptive, and statistical models that support key business functions such as risk management, finance forecasting, customer experience, and marketing. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader in forecasting, optimization, and machine learning, contributing to our enterprise-wide data transformation initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement advanced models using supervised learning, statistical methods, and optimization techniques.
  • Analyze complex datasets from internal systems and third-party sources (e.g., weather, telemetry) to support business performance and AI at scale.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data into a centralized Enterprise Data Warehouse, enabling a single source of truth
  • Conduct research projects from design through execution, summarizing findings and presenting actionable insights to leadership.
  • Develop and apply algorithms to improve operational efficiency and answer strategic business questions.
  • Ensure model documentation and monitoring protocols are in place and aligned with Black & Veatch’s data governance standards.
  • Partner with business leaders to align analytics with strategic goals and communicate findings effectively to senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience driving change, establishing and teaching new processes in an existing organization.

  • Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations, such as GDPR.

  • 12-15 years of experience in data science or a similar quantitative role.

  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, or R.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advance degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

  • 6+ years of experience in data science or a similar quantitative role.

  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, or R.

  • Strong foundation in statistical modeling techniques including regression, time series, survival analysis, clustering, and decision trees.

  • Experience working with large datasets and enterprise data platforms

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into business-friendly insights.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment..

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to drive projects forward independently, ensuring minimal need for guidance or supervision.

  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
