Job Summary

This role functions as a mid-level engineering position. Under general supervision, the engineer performs analytical and technical duties related to the monitoring and diagnostics of operating power‑generation and industrial assets. The position is designed to deepen expertise within the primary discipline while providing opportunities to broaden knowledge across adjacent engineering and functional areas.

Key Responsibilities

The selected professional will support the delivery of Black & Veatch’s Monitoring & Diagnostic (M&D) services.

M&D services is enabled by Asset360® software which is a data‑analytics‑driven software and services platform that enables owners and operators of conventional generation, renewable generation, power distribution systems, water treatment facilities, industrial assets and similar infrastructure to monitor and enhance asset performance, reliability and health. The platform helps diagnose equipment reliability and performance issues, optimize operations, and support integrated planning and forecasting.
Given the complexity of the issues addressed through this service, prior experience in the operation, monitoring, or maintenance of one or more of the following is required:
•    Gas turbines
•    Combined cycle plants
•    Gas‑fired thermal units
•    Coal‑fired units
•    Renewable generation assets

Performance & Technical Services
•    Conduct plant performance assessments and identify improvement opportunities.
•    Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment and performance deviations.
•    Recognize operational and performance patterns and trends using historical and real‑time data.
•    Support long shutdown planning and execution, including equipment isolation, line‑up, start‑up, and shutdown procedures.
•    Evaluate and optimize equipment performance where applicable.
•    Support technical services related to reliability, asset health, and operational readiness.

Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics
•    Analyze operational data to detect anomalies, diagnose issues, and recommend corrective actions.
•    Configure and utilize Asset360® performance monitoring modules.
•    Interpret thermodynamic and reliability‑related KPIs to support client decision‑making.

Client Relationship Management
•    Engage with clients to understand operational challenges and communicate findings clearly.
•    Provide technical guidance on performance optimization and reliability improvements.
•    Support adoption and effective use of Asset360® tools and workflows.

Plant Performance Audits & Testing
•    Conduct field and remote audits, benchmarking, and performance testing.
•    Review protection schemes, operational logic, and equipment interlocks as part of performance and reliability assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline.
•    Experience in power plant operations, technical services, commissioning, or reliability engineering.
•    Strong computer proficiency and interest in thermodynamics, performance engineering, and reliability engineering.
•    Hands‑on experience with:
•    Equipment start‑up, shutdown, and line‑up procedures
•    Protection schemes and operational logic
•    RCA methodologies and structured problem‑solving
•    Pattern recognition in operational data
•    Ability to analyze complex technical data and communicate insights to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
•    Energy Auditor or Energy Manager certification (e.g., BEE, AEE).
•    Experience supporting long-duration outages, shutdowns, or major maintenance events.
•    Familiarity with digital monitoring platforms, reliability tools, and performance analytics.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree + 2-4 years experience OR Master's degree. 2-4+ years experience in a business/consulting environment. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
